How Big is a Ton of rock???

Many people like to think one ton of gravel is a whole lot. It sounds like a like doesn't it? One ton is 2,000 pounds so it is easy to let our imaginations run wild by believing it is an enormous amount. Truth be told, when it comes to gravel, one whole ton is nothing large at all. But we ask ourselves, how much can one ton of gravel cover? The simple answer is to assume you have a bare ground with no other gravel and you spread the one ton of rock and it should fill up a 10ft x 10ft space with approximately 2 inches of depth. AZ Rock Depot Calculator is an easy to use tool when it comes to deciding how much material you would need.

Choosing the right amount of landscaping rock for your yard

Madison Gold Rip Rap

Have you ever looked at your yard and thought about needing a change? Or you find yourself looking at the gravel but have no idea what it is or how to replace it? Then you begin to wonder how much do you even need? These are common questions or concerns a lot of homeowners encounter and we have some suggestions to help those in need.

Knowing your measurements is the first crucial point because different rocks can provide different types of coverage. If you don't know the exact square footage of the areas you want coverage, then try taking measurements manually by measuring the length and width. Make sure you write down the exact measurements and label them for the specific areas. Next you want to determine the depth. Is it for a refresh or for an entire replacement? Average amount of depth is 2 inches while a refreshment is an average of 1 inch.

Now if you're wanting to replace your current gravel with the same or similar rocks, it is best to bring the sample of what you currently have to a gravel supplier. We usually recommend to gather a sandwich bag full of the rocks you want to match. This way the supplier can better analyze the type of rock and age and let you know if its something they carry or if it is a material that is no longer available.

By following these steps, it should help with determining the amount of landscape gravel you will need and how to match what you have or do a full replacement.
